Dana White Reveals That There Won’t Be an Interim Lightweight Belt

Arman Tsarukyan’s wait will extend as Islam Makhachev is still recovering from multiple injuries incurred from his last fight with Dustin Poirier. Tsarukyan is fine with waiting for the Makhachev rematch/title fight. However, in the meantime, he pitched in the idea of introducing an interim UFC lightweight belt just as the heavyweight division has one.

Dana White recently took the time to slam the idea and confirmed that there won’t be an interim belt at 155 pounds. Dana White said Arman Tsarukyan will simply have to wait if Islam Makhachev can’t show up by December.

In a recent interview with Manouk Akopyan, Dana White shed some light on introducing the UFC interim lightweight belt.

“When [Islam] is ready to go, we’ll go, We have plans, we’re looking at it right now on when he would fight. I don’t know [if December 7 is likely]. We’re working on it”.
