Red Bull boss Christian Horner reacted to the news of Adrian Newey joining Aston Martin at today’s press conference. Horner believes that the announcement is an important development not only for Aston Martin but for Formula 1 as a whole. He highlighted that this is a great moment for the team, which is aiming to start winning races.  The arrival of Newey in this team has been talked about for a long time, and a few days ago it was officially confirmed.

However, Horner also pointed out that Aston Martin might have celebrated Newey's arrival a bit prematurely, considering he is still part of Red Bull. Despite this, Horner acknowledged that the move is a major event for everyone involved and expressed his best wishes for Newey's future career.

“It was obviously a large announcement by Aston,” Horner said, as quoted by Crash.

“Adrian has always tended to do his own thing. It was a big moment for that team and they chose to celebrate it, perhaps potentially slightly prematurely before he’s finished his contract with Red Bull Racing.

But obviously it was a big moment for that team.”

Christian Horner mentioned that Adrian Newey’s move to Aston Martin wasn’t a huge surprise, as it had become clear he was leaning towards this decision rather than retiring or joining a different team. Horner expressed that while it will be sad to see Newey leave next year, they wish him all the best for his future. He fondly reflected on the nearly 20 years they’ve worked together, recognizing both the highs and lows. Looking ahead, Horner is optimistic about Red Bull’s future and confident that the team is well-prepared for what comes next.

Adrian Newey has been a crucial figure for Red Bull, the key player from whom everything started. Since 2021, Red Bull has been performing exceptionally well, with last season’s dominance being particularly impressive. Horner praised Newey as a unique creative talent in Formula 1, likening his work to that of an artist with a drawing board.

Horner also mentioned that Aston Martin’s leaders will need to understand Newey’s unique working style and get to know him better. He believes Newey’s experience and distinctive approach could be a major asset for Aston Martin, potentially making a big difference for the team.

Helmut Marko on Max Verstappen and Aston Martin rumors

After Adrian Newey's arrival at Aston Martin, speculation began about whether Max Verstappen might join the team. Helmut Marko quickly addressed this, stating that Verstappen is a driver who races where he has the chance to win. Marko, an experienced figure in the sport, emphasized that Newey's move to any team signifies that the team is making progress.

“Max drives where he can win.

Aston Martin has the most modern factory, the wind tunnel will be operational next year and Honda engines will be added to that. Everything fits.

If you look at history, it is clear: wherever Newey has gone, there has been an upward trend.

I don’t know why it should be any different at Aston Martin.”- Helmut Marko said.

Marko explained that Verstappen understands he has the potential to win titles with Red Bull if the team can successfully navigate the current world championship. He emphasized that achieving this is a crucial goal for them.

Marko is not the only one who has described Verstappen as someone who wants to be part of the best team, a team capable of competing at the very top. It is not known if there are negotiations between Aston Martin and Verstappen, but we do not doubt that this team would want to have the Dutchman in their ranks. Marko addressed the reporter’s question about whether Max could be tempted away from Red Bull in 2026 and beyond. He pointed out that Newey cannot start until March 1, 2025, considering that people within Aston Martin first need to get used to each other.

This season has been brilliant for Verstappen, given that he is leading the championship. The mild crisis within the team over the past few races has led many to speculate that the Dutchman might change teams in the near future. The 26-year-old is motivated to win and be at the top, regardless of the team. The question arises as to who will be the most competitive and have the strongest foundation to attract him.

There is also a second option, which many find unrealistic: that the 26-year-old could stay with the Austrian team and finish his career there. Whether such a scenario will come to pass is still unknown, but what we can witness is another championship battle this season from Red Bull.
