The current situation in the heavyweight division clearly indicates that Oleksandr Usyk is currently the absolute champion, after his significant victories over Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
Usyk won all the major titles for the first time with a victory over Fury, thus becoming the owner of all the major belts. However, after giving up the IBF title, he currently owns the WBC, WBA and WBO titles. The IBF belt is now in the hands of Daniel Dubois, who after losing to Usyk returned with impressive victories over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgović and most recently, Joshua in September.
Possible return of the legendary Klitschko
Despite the current dominance of Usyk, the possibility of a return of one of the greatest boxers of all time – Wladimir Klitschko – is increasingly being mentioned. He last entered the ring in 2017, when he lost to Anthony Joshua, after which he decided to end his career. Before that, Klitschko dominated the heavyweight division for decades, establishing himself as one of the greatest boxers in history.
His comeback has been the subject of increasing speculation in recent years, with his main goal being to break George Foreman's record and become the oldest heavyweight champion of the world. Klitschko's promoter, Tom Loeffler, told The Ring that the 48-year-old Ukrainian is seriously considering a comeback, but only if he is given the opportunity to fight for the title.
"Wladimir is a historic figure. I don't want to speculate for him, but as far as I know, he still wants to fight for the title," Loeffler said.
"He's always in top form, just like he was during his legendary streak of 25 title defenses. If anyone can make a comeback at his age, it's Wladimir," he added.
Given that a Klitschko-Usyk fight would be unusual due to their shared Ukrainian origins, it's possible that Klitschko could target a fight against Dubois if he does decide to return to the ring.
