Two days have passed since the tragic death of Liverpool football player Diogo Jota, who, together with his brother Andre Silva, will be buried on Saturday. The day before, many people came to pay their respects and say goodbye to the great sportsman.

Let us remind you that the accident happened in Spain when the Lamborghini they were riding in caught fire after a tire burst. Diogo Jota and his younger brother, who was also a professional footballer, lost their lives in this tragedy. Jota was 28, while his brother was only 25 years old. Although the brother was talented, Diogo had much more popularity and reputation.

Grief in Portugal and among football stars

Many of his friends, teammates and famous figures from the world of football came to the funeral in Gondomar, Portugal. They included Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes, Manchester City's Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva, Chelsea's Joao Felix and Renato Veiga, as well as former Liverpool team-mate Fabinho. Also present were Porto president Andre Villas-Boas and Portugal national team coach Roberto Martinez.

A particularly emotional moment came when Diogo Jota's wife, Rute Cardoso, arrived dressed in white, as she had on their wedding day on June 22. It was clear how much she was suffering as she watched the coffin with his body carried. The wife sobbed and could hardly bear the pain.

Many of those present wore wreaths in the shape of jerseys, as a symbol of respect. Van Dijk brought flowers with the number 20, and Robertson with the number 30 for Diogo's brother, Andre Silva.

Bishop Manuela Linda stressed that everyone had come "in faith" and as a sign of support for the Jota and Silva families, although no one wanted to be there because of the tragedy. He especially addressed Jota's children, who were not at the funeral, praying for them, their mother, grandparents.

"There are no words, but there are feelings," the bishop said. “We are suffering a lot and we are with you emotionally.”

Liverpool have delayed the players’ return to pre-season training following the tragedy. Manager Klopp said the sense of shock was immense, adding that Jota was loved and respected by everyone at the club.
