Tonight, Ryan Blaney gave the fans at Bowman Gray Stadium an unforgettable performance during the NASCAR Clash, but was unable to get the win. When he got into position to attack the leader, many wondered - why didn't Blaney try to move Chase Elliott and pass him? The answer is simple: he wanted to leave the track in one piece, without any damage to his car.
Blaney could have taken it easy and enjoyed the race, but he decided to try to work his way through almost the entire group, except for Elliott. However, when he finally got into the lead, he didn't have enough tire traction to make another pass attempt. While there are other ways to overtake on short tracks, Blaney didn't want to do anything drastic to his friend, especially in a non-points race.
“I think we were pretty evenly matched. But, yeah, I just – when I started to go I just didn’t have enough right rear and I’m like, ‘Oh ****. I’m not going to make this pass,’ right? And I’m not going to just bulldog into him and get chased out of here with pitchforks. So, you know.”-Blaney said.
Blaney's qualities
For a driver who started from the back, Blaney finished with virtually no damage to his car. However, as the race continued, Blaney began to struggle to keep up, as congestion and lapping traffic made things difficult. Chase Elliott, on the other hand, drove flawlessly, with a perfect weekend behind him.
This was the perfect opportunity for Elliott, who set the fastest time in qualifying, won his group and then triumphed in the Clash. If this is just the beginning for Elliott this season, NASCAR will certainly have plenty to celebrate.
This season could bring a lot of excitement for everyone, as there are many great drivers, but there are those who stand out as the main favorites to win.
