2024 will be remembered in the world of Formula 1 as the year Lewis Hamilton decided to leave Mercedes and take a big step towards Italy. The British driver signed a multi-year contract with the Ferrari team, which marked the beginning of his journey towards an eighth world title. Although he has never spoken about it publicly, Hamilton has always dreamed of wearing the red suit that symbolizes this team.
Hamilton's visit to Maranello
One of Lewis Hamilton's biggest dreams was to follow in the footsteps of great drivers who were part of the Italian team, such as Niki Lauda, Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher. He imagined what it would be like to race for the Italian team, and now it has become a reality. On January 20, Hamilton visited Maranello for the first time, where he met the team as an official Ferrari driver and posed with his favorite car.
However, this was not his first visit. Hamilton visited Ferrari back in 2014, while he was a driver for the Mercedes team and won his first title. Then he came to Maranello to buy a Ferrari LaFerrari, and later found himself having dinner with Piero Ferrari, the son of the legendary Enzo Ferrari.
Piero Ferari revealed how they talked about cars, but also about life. "He was delighted and we talked about various things. He is a really nice person," said Piero.
This visit was not related to the Italian team racing sector, although reporters later asked Piero if they had discussed Ferrari's racing team. He replied with a smile, "Of course not."
He continued:
"He was delighted, we talked about cars, but not only that, and I found him to be a really nice person, extraordinary," said Piero.
"We were in the Cavallino restaurant, he was with his dog. Later he came back several times, mostly talking to the people in charge of the commercial sector," added Piero.
Fans have different expectations when it comes to Hamilton and his career, believing that this could be a good move. However, there are also those who are not optimistic that the new Lewis team can really do great things in the coming period.
The experienced driver is an optimist, delighted with the reception and the new team. Can the 39-year-old really write a great story in Italy?
