The movement hurt the team since the Kansas City Chiefs have had to put wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on injured reserve. Brown is seen to be out for the rest of the regular season with a shoulder injury and is likely to undergo surgery soon after.

Coach Andy Reid more or less disclosed just how critical the injury is, “It’s not going to be weeks, more like months” during a press briefing on Friday. The injury came about on August 10 during his team and the Jacksonville Jaguars preseason opener, where he caught a pass and similarly took an extreme hit to what happened to former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill in 2019 when injury to the shoulder occurred.’

Brown's Prove-It Deal

Brown, who signed a one-year contract worth 5 million dollars with the Chiefs at the beginning of this off season, aimed at challenging himself to perform better than he did in the past two seasons with Arizona Cardinals.

It was a ‘prove it’ contract as he thought, out of all the cities, which was also the lone one that offered him such an opportunity. "Pat [Mahomes] was a big selling point. Being able to work with Coach Reid within a winning locker room environment,” Brown said when seeking the answers to why he decided to go to Kansas City even though it involved a pay cut.

“When there is interest from the chiefs in you, it has to make you sit and think. I can get some papers from elsewhere, but it is all about winning at the end of the day”. In 2021, he played for the Baltimore Ravens, and his career high in reception division occurred; he amassed 91 passes for 1008 yards and scored 6 touchdowns.

Now, the Chiefs will be counting on Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, especially after starting week one with a tight passage from veteran tight end Travis Kelce, who managed just 3 catches. The worrying factor for Reid is also the absence of Brown, who exudes confidence. “I reckon we have got some good at that spot. We have good depth and feel good with it,” he said.
