Although it was not decisive for the final outcome of the NBA season, the matchup between Oklahoma and Denver was certainly interesting from the perspective of the fight for the MVP award. Nikola Jokić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have been dominating the MVP discussion for a long time, and this match brought another opportunity to score important points in that competition.
Oklahoma achieved a convincing victory, with a score of 127:103, and the key figure on the field was precisely Shai Gilgeous Alexander. With as many as 40 points, eight rebounds and five assists, he was the best on the floor, which added weight to his candidacy for MVP.
On the other hand, Nikola Jokić, although very efficient, could not prevent the defeat of his team. He scored 24 points, with 13 rebounds and nine assists, but it wasn't enough for his team to get back into the game.
Jokić comments on the match and the injury
After the match, Jokić admitted to the media that he had to watch the video in order to better analyze his game. "I'll have to watch the tapes to see better, I know I missed a few open threes," he said, stressing that he will analyze the situation to learn from his mistakes.
Also, Jokić briefly commented on the elbow injury he sustained during the match, adding:
"The elbow is fine, it hurts a little."
Another injured player during the game was Aaron Gordon, who had to leave the game due to a calf injury in the first quarter. When asked by a journalist about his condition, Jokić replied: "It's part of basketball. Injuries are part of basketball... Gordon is really struggling and I hope he'll be healthy soon."
A chance for rematch
Denver, currently third in the Western Conference standings with a 41-23 record, has a chance to get revenge on Oklahoma already on the night between Monday and Tuesday. Another tense clash is expected, and the Nuggets will once again be the host. After that, a series of three consecutive games at home awaits them, against Minnesota, Lakers and Washington.
