Nico Rosberg, the F1 legend, often comments on the happenings on the F1 scene, and he did the same this time.
The 39-year-old German reflected on Nico Hülkenberg and his unrealized potential. Although the predictions during the first days of his career were optimistic, with the accent that Hulkenberg could become a star of this sport, things took a different direction.
Analyzing his career, Rosberg admitted that he was surprised that his compatriot never found himself on the podium. Although he excelled in some moments this season, it is far from what we once expected.
“It’s unbelievable that Nico Hulkenberg has never been on the podium,” Rosberg said, as quoted by Crash.
“He was the biggest talent coming up in Formula 3, Formula 2, and showed glimpses of absolute genius in Formula 1.
But, somehow, [he] never lived up to that expectation, apart from again this year, where he really seemed to be so special out there, maximising the car all the time."
He put special emphasis on the qualifications, where the 38-year-old really seemed like he could make a big step. In some moments he succeeded, but overall this season was fantastic for him.
Nico Rosberg: He was not the best socially
After that, Rosberg decided to be even more honest, feeling that coming to this sport, Nico had to be more social, fighting for his place.
“If you show that you are one of the best, you will get to the lucky car, and he never really showed it,” Rosberg continued.
“Plus, he was not the best socially, you know, social intelligence, working on the team bosses to get yourself in the right position, because he burned some bridges there, early in his career – that was one thing that he could have done better.”
The German is not the only driver who did not realize his potential, given that F1 is a sport in which it is very difficult to be at the very top and become a star.
