Next Friday, the NFL will hold its first event in South America as part of the latest edition of the International Series. However, the league's organizers have run into problems with organizing the event. Sports fans these days are not as far from their television sets as they are on game days and do not shy away from taking to social media.

Whether searching for injury reports of their favorite players or placing bets, X (formerly Twitter) is an important aspect of the game even before it officially starts. The game (scheduled for next week) will clash with a significant social media blackout affecting the Philadelphia Eagles at the Green Bay Packers game.

In the coming weeks, a match with such teams in Brazil will have one major handicap: the absence of one social media. This followed a Brazilian Supreme Court justice ruling that ordered the country’s telecoms regulator to prevent access to X from anywhere in the country.

The reason for the ruling was reported to be Musk’s wilful disrespect to a Brazilian court’s orders to delete certain content and accounts from the service.

Coverage Challenges Loom

Notably, this is not expected to affect the course of the game, which appears to be going forward.

However, lacking X may pose major challenges in live reporting and interacting with fans. Collateral NFL coverage has become an indelible component of sports culture with the integration of speed and sociability in reporting.

The injunction on X in Brazil may cause some deficiency within the normal continuum of information availability. Again, broadcast networks may be pushed to the limit in their attempt to cover the situation. Another option that could cover all these conflicts and problems could be asking NFL insiders to have people at the stadium and text the key updates.

Even though this is not the best possible solution to the issue at hand, it can cause some drawbacks, such as delays or scant information.
