Michael Chandler waited for the McGregor bout to materialize with extreme patience and determination. The wait may not have paid off directly, but it is worth highlighting that Chandler is in a much better position. He is going to fight Charles Oliveira on November 16th.

It’s not a rematch; it's a decider, and a solid win seals the deal and grants him the opportunity to fight for the UFC lightweight title. This privilege would be far more difficult to attain if he faced Conor McGregor.

Which really proves the universes law “One opportunity snatched away, is the door opening of another”.

Michael Chandler explains why he took the Charles Oliveira fight:

“I took a quick little detour to chase this [McGregor fight]… now I get the opportunity to take a title run.

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Iron Michael Chandler explained how he does not blame McGregor for the delay.

“I don’t blame him for anything. I really don’t,” Chandler said, as quoted by mmafighting.com. “The outsiders can look and say, ‘Man, he must hate Conor. Conor did this to him. Conor did that to him.

The UFC did this to him.’ I did all this myself. At any given time, I could have jumped off the train and said ‘UFC, let me fight someone else.’ At any given time, I could have said I’m done with this.

At any given time, I could have said no to obligations and just changed course. I put myself in this position. It’s a position I wanted to be in. It was a decision that I made. Do I want to punch Conor in the face and beat him and get my hand raised? Absolutely, but I want to do it in the confines of competition and we will do it at some point.

No ill will whatsoever. I caused this. I chose this path. This path is now leading me to Nov. 16 and the biggest fight of my life”.
