Marc Marquez made an extremely successful start to the new MotoGP season, taking his first victory in Thailand. He was joined on the podium by his brother Alex Marquez, who took second place, and his teammate Francesco Bagnaia. This result is important as it gives Marc the perfect opportunity to challenge for the title, given that the reigning champion, Jorge Martin, is temporarily out of action due to injury.
Meanwhile, Martin is still recovering and his return to the track remains uncertain. The Aprilia Racing team has already confirmed that Martin will miss the next race in Argentina. It is uncertain when exactly he will return, and his recovery becomes crucial to continuing his title fight. While Martin is looking to regain form, Marquez sees this situation as an opportunity to gain an advantage in the fight for the championship.
Marquez in great form
Julià Marquez, father of the Marquez brothers, couldn't hide his emotions when Marc and Alex stood on the podium together, with Marc explaining how incredibly lucky he is to watch his brother progress and perform at the highest level. According to the legendary Spaniard, Alex Criville, who in 1999 became the first Spaniard to win the 500cc title, Marquez could have a season similar to that of Max Verstappen in 2023, when the Red Bull rider won 19 of 23 races.
Criville feels that Marc is definitely the favorite for the title this year and that he is in outstanding form at the moment.
"Marc has everything he needs – the best bike, the best team and huge motivation. His start to the season, with a win together with his brother in Thailand, could not have been better," Criville said.
Given his career so far, Marc has the advantage in terms of experience, and now, with added motivation, many believe he could have another great season. He has already won six titles, and given his current form, it will not be surprising if he finds himself at the top of the MotoGP standings again.
