Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a direct sequel to the first game, and Kojima Productions has an additional challenge here – how to remind players of the events of the six-year-old game. The story of the first Death Stranding is not something that can be retold in two or three sentences. That's why Kojima has prepared not one, but two official reminders.

One is text-based and you'll find it within the game itself – it's visible from the main menu. The second has now been released on PlayStation's official YT channel as a six-minute video that explains in more detail how Death Stranding begins and ends, and what the story was like before its sequel.

If you ask me (as someone who has already finished DS2), you should give this summary priority over the in-game one – it's actually better structured and lays out the story more clearly, even though it takes six minutes to do so.

And what kind of story follows? You'll find out in less than a week when the first reviews for Death Stranding 2 are published.

Death Stranding

The original Death Stranding had a lot to explain to us, both in terms of story and gameplay. Its sequel assumes that you already know the basic idea, but Kojima and Sony still need to repeat the material for players. That's why a new video has been released that goes through all the segments of the game, and also reveals some smaller novelties. For example:

the world will now have more living creatures - kangaroos, flocks of bats, etc.

the map will be in 3D in the sequel

the main character (Sam) will develop passive bonuses over time across six categories and individually for six types of weapons

we will also be able to activate passive bonuses across four branches (combat, survival, sociability and transport)

certain vehicles will be able to collect cargo automatically
on certain vehicles we will be able to shoot while driving

we will see new types of BT opponents
