The NASCAR world has welcomed Mike Wallace's return to NASCAR tracks with open arms, following reports that this veteran plans to qualify for the Daytona 500 in 2025. Although he received support from well-known faces of this sport, some were not open to supporting him, such as journalist Nick Bromberg.
Mike was defended by his brother Keny Wallace, who does not understand why anyone opposes Mike's decisions.
Nick Bromberg stressed that a person who has not performed in the Cup Series for 10 years should not have an automatic approval for the qualification attempt.
"I'm sure this will be controversial, but a 65-year-old who hasn't competed in a Cup Series race or a top-3 series NASCAR race on an oval since 2015 and last raced in a top-3 series NASCAR race overall in 2020 probably shouldn't get automatic approval to attempt the Daytona 500."- he said, as quoted by Bellingham Herald.
Fans of this sport in the US know that Bromberg is a person who openly criticizes many drivers, as he does not hesitate to share his views, no matter how controversial they are.
NASCAR fans have mixed feelings, but it seems that the majority support the return of this experienced driver. Kenny Wallace admitted that he expected this kind of reaction from the famous reporter.
"Would not expect anything less out of you, Nick. You've always been a negative reporter."- Kenny said.
Mike Wallace reacts
Looking at Mike's statements, it is hard to oppose his decision, especially when we know that the 65-year-old lost his wife a year ago. Returning to this sport brings him excitement, and it is likely that participation in this competition format will have a therapeutic effect on him.
"The big reason is in January 2024 I lost my wife Carla from being married 44 years. She had a bout with cancer, we thought she had beat it, unfortunately, she didn't and life wasn't all that great, wasn't that fun in 2024."- he said.
