Today, the world champion took to Instagram and shook the MotoGP planet with two stories.
In short – this is Jorge Martin's first and last season in Aprilia, in which last winter he won the title of world champion in the "royal category" won on a private Ducati.
However, it started badly from the first day and, obviously, it will not end differently.
Jorge Martin's statement
Here is Martin's statement from the popular social network about the decision:
"Greetings to all,
I want to offer all fans, media and people who follow my career a clear explanation of my current situation with Aprilia.
I have not violated the contract at any time. When we signed it, I agreed with Aprilia that, if certain conditions are not met, I reserve the right to make a decision about my future for 2026. This was a key condition for me to accept the contract they offered me at the time.
When I made the decision to change the team last year, one of my requests was to have the opportunity to test the bike in real conditions and to get to know the team and its working methodology. That way, I would feel comfortable signing a contract for two years instead of one. That's why we included that clause.
Faced with a situation where I have to make a decision on a contractual date, I have decided to exercise my right to release myself from my contractual obligations for the 2026 season. I have always done so respectfully, clearly and with the sole intention of taking control of my future. as a professional athlete.
Unfortunately, the circumstances that arose as a result of the falls, although it is true that they do not affect what we agreed on, conditioned this phase. That's why I was always open to dialogue with Aprilia so that we could extend this period to a certain number of races after my return to competition. The goal is that both parties can give each other a second chance and feel comfortable before making a decision in 2026.
I have always been honest with Aprilia, I have always appreciated the motorcycle, the team and the efforts of all the people who are part of the project. The only thing I ask is that my will and the spirit of what we agreed with Aprilia be respected."
