The current champion of the royal class, Jorge Martin, will return to the track this coming weekend at the Qatar Grand Prix, Aprilia confirmed. After breaking his left ankle and right foot, Martin was withdrawn from the first day of pre-season testing. However, fans welcomed his return.
The Spaniard then suffered a fractured right hand for several days, and it was known that his return could not be expected before the fourth round. The situation was really alarming.
The defending champion has so far missed races in Thailand, Argentina and the United States, where he appeared on the track and announced his return to the "Lusail" circuit, which was confirmed after the last medical examinations in Spain.
Fans have the right to be happy and hope for the best.
Aprilia, by the way, asked for permission for Martin to test this year's motorcycle before returning to the track, but that request was rejected because it was not in accordance with the rules, but all of this started negotiations about changing the regulations regarding the return of drivers to the track after a certain period of absence.
Lorenzo Savadori and Marco Bezzecchi
Martin was replaced in the first three races of the season by Lorenzo Savadori, test driver of Aprilia, along with Marco Bezzecchi, who also joined the team as the defending champion between two seasons.
The Italian was sixth at the season opener in Buriram, then he retired at the beginning of the race in Argentina, in order to equal the best result of this season in Austin. Last year, Martin triumphed in the sprint on the "Lusail" track, while he finished the Grand Prix race in third place.
It will be interesting to follow his progress and recovery after the injury, and really see what will happen. The question is how ready this great driver is at this moment, and what are his capacities. There is no doubt that he has the qualities, but he will have to confirm that on the MotoGP tracks in the coming period.
