Former Chelsea captain John Terry revealed who he considered the most dangerous striker he played against, and it is the legendary French striker Thierry Henry. Both players were key figures on the English scene in the early 2000s, when the French striker excelled at Arsenal and Chelsea defender established himself as the leader of Chelsea's defence.
Thierry Henry: A nightmare for Terry
Terry and Henry met on the field a total of nine times, and the fights were a real challenge for Terry, who admitted that because of those clashes, he often had sleepless nights. "I literally had sleepless nights because of him. For me, when I first came to the Chelsea team, he was the best," said the former English defender. In those nine matches, Henry scored three goals and provided an assist, while Terry scored twice. Despite fierce duels, Terry can boast that he came out victorious in three meetings, while the remaining matches ended without a winner or in favor of Arsenal.
This great defender highlighted Henry's talent, stating that he had everything needed to be a top-level striker: "Arsenal were one of the best teams in the Premier League at the time, if not in the world. He just had it all: pace, power, he could score with both feet, he could head it."
Although Henry was a real challenge, Terry always admired his game and stressed that he was a true gentleman off the pitch.
"He was always great with me; he would always hug me after the game and say, 'Listen, just try and do this'... those things are priceless."
The former England international, in addition to his Premier League prominence, can proudly boast five Premier League titles, six FA Cups and several other major trophies. He left a huge mark on the London team, and remained a legend of this club. Terry is considered by many to be one of the best central defenders in the history of this team.
