When Jimmie Johnson first came to the IndyCar Series, he got a lot of attention. The 49-year-old has decided that it is time for a new chapter in his career, but he is aware of many challenges ahead. In the media interview, Jimmie put the emphasis on his wife, who did not accept his decision with open arms. Chandra had a problem following the races in some moments due to the high speed.

"I guess on the opening lap obviously I was in the car and couldn't see it but some of my friends said she turned around and ran from the grandstands because we went by it like 230 – 240 [mph] on the opening lap and she's like I can't watch this and ran," he said, via the High Performance podcast (below)."- Jimmie Johnson said, as quoted by Bellingham Herald.

Jimmie Johnson on his wife

Being a driver's wife is not easy. Motorsports are such that you can expect an accident or incident at any moment. Chandra, on the other hand, accepted that every race will carry a factor of uncertainty. Jimmie Johnson revealed that he had trouble convincing her that IndyCar racing was the right thing for him. After some time, Chandra accepted his decision.

"At Indy I had a pretty good shunt at the end of the race and that's the speed you're running there, it is a risk and ultimately, I did my best salesman job ever to convince my wife to let me go IndyCar racing."- he continued.

Jimmie's wife, despite wanting Jimmie to focus on other things, could sense the passion and love he had for this job. When you feel someone loves this sport so much, it's hard to say no! Johnson admitted that having the support of his wife, who is a huge tailwind for him, is key, and we have no doubt that this will indeed be the case.

Jimmie expects her support in the continuation of his career.
