During a recent Q&A session on the Something To Wrestle With podcast, WWE Hall of Famer JBL answered a question about Vince McMahon's possible distrust of Vince Russo. When asked if he believed McMahon still harbored anger and resentment toward Russo, JBL admitted that he wasn't sure because McMahon had never specifically mentioned it.

JBL recalled an incident on his show Legends with JBL, when Eric Bischoff made comments about Vince Russo that provoked a reaction from Russo. He contacted JBL and asked for a chance to respond to Bischoff's claims. JBL then relayed Russo's plea to McMahon, hoping to allow Russo to speak on the show. However, McMahon was completely against the idea.

McMahon said, "I'm not going to give him any attention. I'm not going to do that," and refused to engage in any debate involving Russo.

While JBL couldn't say for sure whether McMahon's rejection was out of personal hatred or strategy, it's clear that McMahon didn't want to give Russo a platform on WWE programming, creating a clear distance.

“I don’t know if Vince had any animosity towards him or this guy was out there saying anything negative about our product and I don’t want to give him press as far as prestige as far as putting him on a WWE show. I don’t know what Vince’s motive was behind saying unequivocally, ‘No, this is not going to happen.’ So I don’t know what Vince was thinking.”
