One of the best tennis players in the world, Jannik Siner, admitted that he went through a very difficult period after accepting a three-month suspension due to an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Australian Open champion and current number one on the ATP list, Siner, has been on hiatus since January, when he celebrated in Melbourne.
In February, Siner agreed to a suspension that lasts from February 9 to May 4 after not complining about anti-doping rules. This decision knocked him out of several important tournaments, including indoor tournaments in February, as well as important tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.
Although he missed this series, Janik hopes to return to the court in early May, when he will play at the Masters in Rome.
Siner about his emotions during the break
In an interview with Skaj Sports, the young Italian spoke openly about the emotional challenges and difficulties he experienced after his suspension. "I was really broken after everything that happened, because there were many unexpected things, including my own reactions. In life, we are constantly learning and maturing, and now I feel like I understand myself better. The people around me gave me the strength to understand the situation and move on," Siner said.
In addition, the two-time Australian Open champion revealed that the suspension agreement was quick, but that it was difficult to accept such an outcome. However, he believes that it was the best option in order to avoid a legal battle in the long run.
"Even though I didn't completely agree with it, I decided on the lesser evil, because it would have been much worse if all this had gone to court," Siner said.
Siner used this period to focus on himself and his priorities. "I learned a lot, and one of the most important things is that tennis is not the most important thing in life. My family and friends are my priority. It's good to have people you can rely on," said the young Italian.
He could soon return to the field, but Janik is not sure what exactly awaits him. It will be hard to come back after everything, but with the right mindset, success can be achieved.
"I don't know how people in the stands and colleagues in the locker room will react. It will be challenging, but I believe that people in my team and friends will be with me, because they know the truth," added Siner.
