Jakub Menšik, a young Czech tennis player, is often mentioned in the media as one of the greatest talents. At just 19 years old, he is currently competing in the semi-finals of the Miami Masters, the most important match of his career so far. His opponent is Taylor Fritz, and Menšik has already achieved an impressive series of victories that brought him to this stage of the tournament.
Before the tournament, he was on the 54th place in the ATP list, and now he is already on the 34th position. With victories in Miami, he could reach 24th place.
His path to the semifinals included wins over big names like Roberto Bautista Agut, Jack Draper, and Roman Safiullin. He defeated Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals, and according to Tennis Insights, his serve deserved a high 9.4 out of 10.
For Menšik, the physical constitution, with a height of 193 cm, plays a crucial role in his serves. He says that great focus is placed on improving the serve during the transition from junior to professional tennis.
"I work hard on my serve, it's my biggest weapon," Menšik said.
Jakub Menšik talks about tennis talents
Although the young Brazilian João Fonseca attracts a lot of media attention, Menšik is quite humble and feels that right now everything revolves around names such as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. He is at the beginning of his professional career and, although he does not have a lot of fans supporting him on social media, his qualities are truly amazing.
"Right now, the most popular are Sinner and Alcaraz, it's normal that everything revolves around them. They've already done great things. Last year was my first professional year, so I didn't attract as much attention as Fonseca did this year. I don't know why, maybe it's because I'm just a regular guy from the Czech Republic, a smaller country. It's nice to see new names, but only the best get the most attention," concluded Menšik.
