Today, LeBron James is synonymous with the LA Lakers, but his career in Miami was extremely successful, although it ended in a somewhat unusual way, at least according to his former teammate Dwyane Wade.
LeBron's Adventure in Miami
LeBron spent four years in Miami, during which he won two championship titles and, together with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, formed one of the most dominant team tandems in the history of the NBA. However, his unexpected return to Cleveland caused a lot of speculation, and many believe that a few more seasons with Wade and Bosh would certainly bring a few more rings.
The reason for his departure from Miami, according to Wade, may seem a bit unbelievable, but it still has its weight, if what Wade told is to be believed.
Dwyane revealed that he knew LeBron was leaving Miami when Pat Riley, president of basketball operations, banned LeBron from eating his favorite chocolate chip cookies on team flights. Wade described the situation in detail:
"One thing you don't do - you don't touch LeBron's cookies. He loves chocolate chip cookies and ice cream. He would always board the plane with bags of food. One contained cookies, and the other contained food prepared by the chef himself. We are playing cards, he asks 'Where are my cookies?' Someone approaches him, whispers in his ear and says that there are no more cookies on the flight. He just leaned back in his seat, pushed the cards away and just nodded his head. "He didn't play anymore," said Wade.
This moment was a key factor in LeBron's decision to leave Miami, and it was also the beginning of Riley's increasing control over the team. Wade believes that little things like this played a big role in LeBron's sense of dissatisfaction.
"It seems like a small thing, but these little things help you endure. You travel, you arrive in the city at three in the morning, there is food on the plane, but you don't want to eat at that moment. You have to have your little rituals to be the best. "Riley took those little things away from him right when he was at his peak," Wade added.
This example shows how little things can have a big impact on careers and sports history. LeBron showed that he is a player with his views, who did not want to give them up. Frustrated with the management's decisions, he decided it was time to part ways.
