NASCAR fans were left shocked when Denny Hamlin's car caught fire during a NASCAR Cup Series race in Texas. During his podcast, Hamlin said he didn't notice anything until he stopped. However, once he did, he admitted that the smoke had a big impact on him.

“Not until I stopped,” Denny Hamlin said, as quoted by On3

“I didn’t feel anything until I stopped. A lot of it was because the wind was pushing it back behind the car. But the smoke got bad really quick. When I came to a stop, that’s when the smoke started getting me pretty good.”

The experienced driver, although he has been on the NASCAR scene for years, has not found himself in a similar situation many times. These are situations in which every driver is afraid to find, but Denny is a brave person, who knew that such things could happen.

Denny Hamlin talks about consequences

Denny admits that he wanted to avoid negative consequences, and he can be happy that things passed without major consequences.

“I haven’t been in that spot a ton, but you just don’t want to get burned,” he said. “You can feel the heat coming from wherever it’s coming from, but the smoke is the one thing that I don’t want to get in my lungs and stuff like that. You got the safety vehicle people, they’re spraying it with all the substance and whatnot. It’s just that, but I was able to get out fine.”

The experienced driver pointed out that he did not allow the fire to completely destroy the car, considering that he wanted an analysis of the failure pattern to be carried out. Fortunately for him, his technical team will have the opportunity to examine the damage and determine where the failure came from.

Hamlin wants to avoid similar situations in the future, and it is clear that NASCAR is doing everything to prevent such scenarios from happening.
