Sanders, who serves as head coach for the Colorado Buffaloes team, thinks that the team’s versatile two-way player, Travis Hunter, is more suited for professional football rather than college football. During a recent related performance on Big Noon Kickoff, a show aired on Fox Sports, Sanders tried to justify why Hunter’s bi-position abilities are a huge asset in the NFL.
He also expressed that no NFL coaches would wait long before coming to that conclusion about Hunter being on the bench. Sanders also pointed out that Hunter isn’t just a corner or a wideout; he is an all-around football player who should be utilized in all ways necessary on the field.
"The perfect thing about Travis is, say you put Travis at cornerback, and he is killing the offense. You can't move the ball, so you will eventually think, 'Well, my number one target is sitting on the bench. 'This a case of moving away from that route and playing a player who is a football player.
'Travis is a football player, and a football player does not sit on a bench,” Sanders said.
NFL Slower Pace
As Sanders noted, Hunter’s abilities will even be more developed in the NFL, which tends to be played at a slower pace and practices are not as physical as college football.
NFL teams tend to huddle up on the field quite often. This is beneficial for players like Hunter because they can have a short rest in between plays and perform well in different roles. Sanders emphasized that this professional environment will also allow Hunter to reach a high standard in attack and defense.
Considering Hunter's exceptional college resume, Sanders is right in trusting such a bright prospect. Even though he missed out on three games of the last season, Hunter led the total snaps in the FBS by his positions in his sophomore year in 2023.
His stellar showings extended to the 2024 season, particularly against Colorado State, where he played 123 of 138 offensive and defensive snaps in that game. In that match up, he threw two passes for a touchdown and intercepted one pass, exemplifying his ability to perform on both offense and defense.
