The Milwaukee Bucks NBA team officially announced that the operation on the left leg of their 34-year-old basketball player Damian Lillard was successfully performed.
During the first round NBA playoff series between Indiana and Milwaukee, after which Milwaukee was defeated and thus ended the season, Lillard suffered a serious injury and ruptured the Achilles tendon in his left leg.
He has now been successfully operated on and the first official announcements say that in an ideal scenario, Lillard will be out until the end of this calendar year. The club believes that Lillard might be ready to return to the basketball court at the end of the regular season next season.
Prior to this serious injury, Lillard also had one month out due to a blood clot in his right leg.
Bucks general manager Jon Horst reacts
He was cleared of the deep vein thrombosis in his right calf a month ago. Bucks general manager Jon Horst said at the time that they were happy for him, stressing that they have always put an emphasis on his health. Horst continued by saying that they are grateful to the medical team that diagnosed and treated his DVT.
“We’re thrilled for Dame,” Bucks general manager Jon Horst said in a statement. “Our priority has always been Dame’s health. We’re grateful to our medical team for diagnosing and treating his DVT at an early stage, and for the world-renown hematology specialists at Mayo Clinic.
Every step of Dame’s recovery has been at the direction of world-class medical professionals and their specific and strict protocols that have allowed for Dame’s safe and healthy return to play.”
During 58 games of the current season, Lillard averaged 24.9 points per game with 4.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists.
