Bobby Lashley is a person who has had an interesting career and an interesting career path. The 48-year-old wrestler decided to leave WWE at one point, joining AEW. Reactions after his arrival were mostly positive.
In a conversation with Denise Salcedo, Lashley made a comparison between WWE and AEW, noting that things looked completely different when he was in WWE. From Lashley's words, it can be felt that WWE is a company that limits wrestlers to some extent, considering that they did not have as much creativity as they have in AEW. By leaving WWE, Lashley felt a dose of freedom that he knew how to use in the right way.
“When I was with the WWE, it was like everything was very structured. There was a lot of structure there,e and coming over to AEW, it gave you a little bit more creative liberty to just kind of have fun a little bit. I had those times, you know when I was in WWE originally when I first came in, and then I left, and I went to TNA, I got to really just open up and really develop and find myself as a character when I was with TNA because I had a little less."- he said, as quoted by Pwmania.
Lashley explained that during his time in TNA, he had more flexibility to develop as a character and explore creative ideas. This is the phase of his career when he learned many things, created a different perspective, and progressed as a wrestler.
When he returned to WWE, the 49-year-old felt a strict structure, which he said was a positive thing because he appreciated the way WWE works. WWE is the No. 1 company, and many are aware that they have to adapt when they get there. WWE has a clear system, with individuals who have clear tasks.
Such a system does not suit some, but it is obvious that it has been producing results for years. Others, like Lashley, believe that such a system limits them, which is also a possibility.
However, now at this stage of his career as an older athlete, Lashley noted that AEW has given him the opportunity to help younger fighters, express his creativity, and explore the things he wants to do, which he felt was perfect for this moment in his life. Bobby enjoys his work, and he wants to do equally exciting and impressive things in the future.
Bobby Lashley on his rivalry with Brock Lesnar
Insight With Chris Van Vliet was an opportunity for Bobby Lashley to talk about his feud with Brock Lesnar within WWE. The two had several bouts within the company, which always attracted the attention of the fans. Both are impressive wrestlers.
Lashley talked about the option of a match with Lesnar in MMA. The 49-year-old thinks it's a great idea, expecting them to do extraordinary things. Lashley thinks that the idea that people have about him chasing Brock is not true. The reason why their matches attract so much attention is the fact that they have similar characters. Although he admits that he hasn't done as great things in WWE as Lesnar, the two of them attract a lot of attention, especially when they fight each other in the ring.
“I think it would have been awesome. I think we would have broke some numbers. I think it would get crazy but, you know, a lot of people try to talk like if I was chasing Brock or anything like that. I was like, No. When I first came in, a lot of people just naturally fantasy book. And we both had kind of similar characters. I didn’t accomplish the things that Brock did, but people still looked at it as if Brock needs a matchup, that’s the guy he should be matched up with. So they looked at it that way."- he said.
Bobby Lashley put the accent on his rivalry with Brock Lesnar in WWE, wishing they could have done more with the storyline. The fans are blown away by their story, but Lashley has a feeling he can't escape.
The 49-year-old believes they had the potential to build a strong story, including showing the preparation for the fight, which could be reminiscent of classic movie stories like Rocky. An interesting idea on Lashley's part that didn't come to fruition, but WWE executives might think about it next time.
Bobby added that it would be interesting if he and Lesnar were teamed up temporarily, perhaps with Paul Heyman leading them, where they would win the tag team titles. Some think it's a great idea. However, natural rivalry would eventually drive them apart, creating an even stronger conflict.
The popular wrestler concluded that their dominance as a team would be too great, but believes that they could have created great matches with other opponents.
