Christian McCaffrey, star running back of the San Francisco 49ers, has sought physical rehabilitation for issues concerning his Achilles tendinitis, which has limited his performance early in the season 2024. With the 49ers dealing with increasing injury problems, McCaffrey went to Germany to seek treatment for his Achilles injury that has kept him out of action since the preseason.

McCaffrey has been awarded the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and did not play in week 1 against New York Jets because the achilles injury had not healed. McCaffrey was placed on injured reserve before the 49ers game in week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.

This decision implies that he will not be available for at least four games, the earliest return being week six.

McCaffrey Injury Uncertainty

Head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged McCaffrey's travel to Munich for further treatment of the 28-year-old.

Shanahan raised caution, but he pointed out that McCaffrey has a questionable injury. “It is tendonitis that I guess we are dealing with, so not one person has the pruning sheath,” explained Shanahan. “He doesn’t know; we don’t know all of them, and we are just taking it one day at a time”.

Meanwhile, Jordan Mason is making quite an impression in his absence. This season, Mason crossed the 100 rushing yards barrier in two out of three matches, recording 324 yards and two touchdowns in 67 carries. Although Mason has fared quite well, there is still a tremendous gap in the team due to McCaffrey being sidelined.

Last season, McCaffrey contributed hugely to the 49ers as he rushed for a whopping 1,459 years, a catch of 564 yards, and a total of 21 touchdowns in the game. During the playoff run to the Super Bowl, he led the NFL in rushing yards, total touchdowns, and scrimmage yards.

Just like McCaffrey, other significant players of the 49ers are facing the brunt of injury. Key offensive threats Deebo Samuel, wide receiver George Kittle as well as quarterback Brock Purdy have also been nursing injuries.
