Jon Jones is often considered the best fighter in the history of MMA, but many controversial moments are connected with his name. One of the most anticipated matches in the MMA world was the one between him and Francis Ngannou. Although the fight was close to happen, Jones postponed his debut while Ngannou left the UFC.
GOAT by many, could face another challenge.
What can we expect?
Tom Aspinall, the young British fighter, has become a name connected to Jon Jones, but it seems that Jon is still staying away from the fight. Although many believe that Aspinall could be a real opponent for Jon, the experienced fighter seems not interested. Allegedly, Jones has set a price that the UFC can't or won't accept. He seems more interested in a fight with Alex Pereira, which he says would be "better for his legacy."
Although Pereira was defeated by Magomed Ankalaev, the talk of a fight with Jones is currently silent. This leaves Tom Aspinall as the only logical choice to fight Jones. However, it seems that not all negotiations are over here either.
Chael Sonnen, a former UFC fighter and now analyst, has brought news from "insider circles" stressing that a verbal agreement has already been reached between Jon and Aspinall.
According to Sonnen, the 37-years-old said he needs six months to prepare, but he himself is aware that this is more marketing than a real desire.
"I doubt Jon seriously thought he needed six months. It was just a statement that became much more important than it should have been. I believe the fight will happen this year, maybe in November in New York, or in Las Vegas in December," Sonnen said.
Dana White confirms talks
Shortly before Sonnen shared his insights, UFC president Dana White also revealed that talks for a Jones-Aspinall fight are well underway.
"The fight is going to happen, it's just a matter of when the deal is signed," White said,
