The Kansas City Chiefs are currently in a terrible split at left tackle since neither first-year player Kingsley Suamataia nor second-year Wanya Morris has assumed full ownership of that position. With both players unable to find their rhythm, head coach Andy Reid started fresh with a new strategy.

After the day’s practice on Monday, Reid expressed that Morris will take over the left tackle position for Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Suamataia, who has struggled recently in his still detoxification phase, has been locked up for good.

It is unknown when and whether Suamataia will return to that role.

Reid Explains Decision

Reid explained the decision, saying: “I liked Wanya in there. I thought he did some productive things there, and we will most likely do more of that.

Kingsley rotated in, played some tight end, and got some good reps in there”. Such a statement stirred a few heads, especially because Suamataia has been seen taking some snaps at the tight end position in the last few games.

Although there is no question about Suamataia's athleticism, many are astonished at his transition to a tight-end position. The rookie, who was supposed to grab the left tackle position, is still regarded to have quite a huge upside, but right now, he just needs more time to grow.

The point of view has been missing in Mahomes' game, constantly under attack from the players at that position, and due to Suamataia’s battles in week 2 against Trey Hendrickson, the coaching staff made the call to pull the trigger on a change a little quicker than most would have liked.

The Chiefs most likely planned to have Suamataia remain in the starting position for the entire season. Nevertheless, the difficulties confronted early in the season have made Morris take up the position earlier than expected.

While the coaching staff still seems to have faith in Suamataia's long-term potential, they appear to think that he requires more time to adjust to the position's requirements.
